I love to say I told you so

Hey remember that thing about Verizon not getting the iPhone until at least 2012? Turns out I was right. If you’re on Verizon and you want an iPhone, it’s time to pony up that absolutely ludicrous ETF and switch to AT&T. But you might want to wait until July then the new one comes out. Until then, you may want to give the Kin a shot. The reviews actually aren’t bad, and it’s certainly one of the more interesting products Verizon has had in awhile.
My other hobby

I follow the technology industry. It’s fun, like celebrity gossip, but with legitimately consequential outcomes that affect us all. On any given day, I read a number of sites that do quality industry analysis. And a few that are basically just drivel.
Today’s link is one of the latter.
If I weren’t pretty sure that the author was serious, it would be brilliant satire. All week, people had been blindly speculating about who would buy Palm. I’m not sure anyone actually guessed the correct answer before it was announced. But this one…wow, just wow. I think Facebook lacks the deep pockets of Microsoft, or the technical ability of Google (have you seen the iPhone app?). Making the jump from web company to hardware would be nearly impossible for them, on economic, technical, and leadership levels.
Despite their spotty history with consumer PCs, I think HP is actually in a pretty good position to take over Palm, though it remains to be seen how well this decision will pan out. Somehow I think the Slate’s release date just got pushed back a couple weeks months years.
Update: According to rumors, the Slate has been canceled. This confirms some of my speculation that running Windows 7 on a device that small would result in either poor performance or unimpressive battery life.
Update 2: The Slate is back on, and still sporting Windows 7!
